Western Leadership Advantage Scholarship & Program

This scholarship is assessed and distributed during the WWU application/acceptance process by the Admissions Office in partnership with the Morse Leadership Institute.

Scholarship Applicant Questions

WWU applicants must demonstrate and discuss their leadership experience within the application to WWU, in their personal statement, etc. 

Students who are accepted for the WLA Scholarship Program:

Receive $1500 scholarship their first year at WWU, and are supported by MLI faculty and student staff in the first year through group and personalized advising and mentorship. They are invited to MLI's academic &social events to encourage students' success and connection to others on campus and in the community. 

No application necessary. The Admissions Office will notify students when they have been selected to recieve the scholarship

Bowman Leadership Studies Scholarship

You must be a declared Leadership Minor to apply. Awards are each $1500 (or $500 per quarter) and multiple awards will be granted if students meet the qualifications.

Scholarship Applicant Qualifications

Must be:

  • Declared LDST minor
  • Full-time undergraduate (i.e. enrolled for at least 12 credits per quarter)
  • enrolled in at least one quarter (recipients receive $500/quarter
  • in good standing with the university
  • making sufficient progress toward degree, and
  • receiving a passing grade in all LDST classes

#WeAreWWU By Student For Students Scholarship Program

Created by students for students, the #WeAreWWU program fund enriches students' educational experience by supporting their needs (i.e. urgent, programmic, or professional), as they strive to transcend as leaders. the support received may include financial or material assistance

MLI manages this program fund and may provide support to individual students, the campus community, or student groups. The initiative supported by this fun are included but not limited to:

  • Class snacks and food at student events
  • Grocery gift cards for students in immediate need
  • Programming associated with students various needs (e.g. clothing drive, social events)
  • Purchasing supplied for MLI Community Engagement Initiatives in LDST 101
  • Collecting and distributing academic tools (books, computers, lab needs, etc.)for student use
  • Supporting student conference and or event attendance (e.g. travel costs, registration fees)

MLI distributes finds based on request/application when funds are availible. Students can apply for individual or group/club support. MLI will also distribute support broadly or advertise inidvidual opportunities funded. The #WeAreWWU Program is still under development but may be woven into curricular, co-curricular, or extra-curricular initiatives

Past #WeAreWWU allocations have included (but are not limited to): one-time scholarships, distribution of pre-owned laptops to student sin need of one, financial support for small events (particularly fundraisers to increase #WeAreWWU capacity), purchase airline tickets, or payment of conference fees for small student clubs and groups.
